Hot Tub Buying Guide

Remove jets

Maybe you need to replace a jet. Maybe you want to give the tub a good cleaning. Maybe a jet is not moving as freely as it should so you want to remove it to clean it. There are a few reasons for removing hot tub jets and when the time comes to remove jets, you want to be sure to do it carefully so as to avoid damaging the jet or the hot tub.

First, check your hot tub manufacturer's guidelines and instructions for this. Different hot tub manufacturers will have different guidelines and you don't want to void a warranty because you are too impatient to read a little. There are usually pictures that go along, so it shouldn't take too much brain power. Stop and do it right. You can also call on your local dealer for some help and instruction if you run into difficulty.

You want to lower the water level below the jets before removing the jets. Depending on why you are removing the jet, you may want to drain the tub completely before removal. It may be easier to work with an empty tub, but not totally necessary.

Using your hands grasp the jet and turn counterclockwise to unscrew the jet. Remember lefty loosey turn left to loosen. You will need to turn the jet firmly. It will give resistance, then give a little more pressure as you continue to turn the just and then you may hear a click. The jet is now unlocked and should pull out easily. If you have difficulty grasping the jet you may want to wear kitchen or gardening gloves to add some grip or rummage through the kitchen drawers to find that little round gripper for jars. This will help your fingers grasp on to the jet to firmly turn it.

If you find that your jets are difficult to remove, it may be due to some buildup in there. Be sure to keep your chemicals in check. If you pH and sanitizer are working well and at appropriate levels you are less likely to get issues from scale.

Now that the jet is out, you can do what you need to. Clean the tub, replace the jet, or whatever you need to do.

Get that jet or replacement back in so you can start enjoying the tub soon.
